"JA in a Day"

"Thank you for coming today, Mr. Adams. I learned a lot"!

It had been my pleasure. There are few activities in life so rewarding as volunteering, let alone helping children. Today, I had the opportunity to feel that sense of pride (while hopefully teaching a group of wonderful kids a thing or two about business and economics)! I did this through Junior Achievement, a program in which working professionals enter a classroom and spend some of their time teaching kids valuable business concepts.

The special part about today was that the usual 5 sessions spread out over 5 days was condensed to a full day spent with the kids... while co-teaching with an RIT Alumnus, Paul Wisotzki. This was the nationwide debut of "JA in a Day" featuring students paired with alumni. Plenty of print and TV media stopped by to catch us in action. As for the subject, Paul (or Mr. W) and I taught the kids about resources and how businesses depend on one another to exist. It was a tremendously worthwhile exprience... it's easy to understand why Louis DeCesare, my High School business teacher, first got into teaching because of his experience with Junior Achievement.
